Headquartered in Houston, the energy capital of the world, Baker Hughes was formed in 1987 by merging two well respected oilfield equipment companies—Baker International Corporation and Hughes Tool Company. Each company had been a pioneer in oilfield technology since the early 1900's.
Baker Hughes serves the worldwide oil and natural gas industry with reservoir consulting and products and services for drilling, formation evaluation, completion and production. We are a leading provider of high-performance technology that creates value from oil and gas reservoirs. Virtually every product and service we provide is designed to lower costs, reduce risk or improve productivity during activities directly related to hydrocarbon extraction, advancing reservoir performance.
Baker Hughes operates in over 90 countries serving independent, international and national oil companies. Our service network is organized into nine regions comprised of 26 geomarkets. Region and geomarket teams work to understand customer needs and coordinate delivery of individual products and comprehensive service solutions that include the right Baker Hughes technologies for the project.

What Product Lines make up Baker Hughes?
The six product lines are:
- Drilling & Evaluation, including directional drilling systems, logging while drilling systems, and wireline services.
- Hughes Christensen, providing advanced drill bit technology
- Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids, providing fluid systems and drilling waste management services
- Baker Oil Tools, providing completion, intelligent production, workover and well intervention technology
- Centrilift, providing artificial lift systems, including electric submersible pumping systems and seabed boosting solutions
- Baker Petrolite, providing specialty chemicals and engineered services for oil and gas production, pipeline and processing.
Our Reservoir Technology and Consulting Group includes three consulting firms – Gaffney, Cline & Associates,
GeoMechanics International
and RDS – that provide technical and commercial consulting, with unique capabilities in reservoir engineering, geomechanics and subsurface engineering.
The operating regions and product lines receive administrative support from the Baker Hughes shared services organization, Baker Hughes Business Support Services (BHBSS).

Baker Hughes operates from over 1,000 service locations in more than 70 countries, close to virtually every major oil producing region in the world. Major technology centers are located in Houston, Texas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Celle, Germany, and Aberdeen, Scotland.

Our National Oil Company (NOC) customers include Saudi Aramco, Petrobras, Pemex, PDVSA, Petronas, Statoil Hydro, CNPC, Sonatrach and Sonangol. Our independent oil company customers include firms like Anadarko, Devon, Apache, and Chesapeake. Individuals that we serve within these companies include managers and directors, asset teams, drilling and production engineers, drilling superintendents, field foremen, and geologists.
