Defoaming and Paraffin
treatments save $2.8 million on deepwater gulf of Mexico
platform
Problem
Deepwater producer was spending $3.8 million/year for
paraffin
inhibitor (450 ppm) and defoamer
(300 ppm) to produce 57,000 BOPD and 350 MMsfcd of gas from a
platform floating in 2000 ft of water. Operator sought to
reduce chemical cost by $1 million/year.
Solution
- Baker Petrolite
introduced the new RE-3758 paraffin inhibitor that proved
effective at 120 ppm.
- Baker Petrolite experts also reduced defoamer rate to
120 ppm.
Results
- Smoother operation of glycol dehydration system with
fewer upsets, lower glycol losses, and fewer filter change
outs.
- Chemical cost reduction: $2.8 million/year, with net
improvement in system performance.
