Horizontal Perforating System Sets World Record, Optimizes Production and Saves $195,000 in Rig Time

Location
North Sea

Objectives

  • Perforate a 1490m net interval with
    2246m of horizontal well
  • Orient guns to minimize sand production and optimize production rates
  • Perforate interval in one trip
  • Minimize debris for future well operations

System

  • HOPSSM – Horizontal Oriented Perforating System with Speed Lift
Clamps from Baker Atlas and Baker Oil Tools
  • 4 1⁄2-in. DP PERFFORM Charges oriented 0-180 degrees, 5 spf, Tubing Conveyed
  • 28ft gun sections for faster total trip time and increased effective reservoir coverage.
  • 188 swivel connectors to rotate guns to proper orientation

Result

  • Met client’s objectives of minimal debris and sand production

  • 28ft. guns optimized effective perforations across reservoir

  • All guns detonated successfully, all 23,180 charges fired, with verified correct orientation

  • World record for longest “oriented” horizontal gun system shot in one trip

  • Deployed in one trip, saving 52 hours rig time
