Deepset Neptune Safety Valves Saves Operator $500,000 and Prevents
Major Production Delay
Location
Gulf of Mexico
Problem
- During the late design phase of a deepwater development,
the operator discovered that the hydrate formation point was
deeper than expected.
- Conventional safety valves could not be opened at required
depth with pressure provided by previously selected system
control.

Solution
- Baker Oil Tools nitrogen-charged 3 1⁄2-in. Neptune-10
Safety Valve which could be set below the hydrate formation
level, with opening pressure below the control system pressure
rating.
- Expedited delivery prevented completion schedule delays.
Results
- Operator did not have to upgrade the control system
pressure rating, saving $500,000.
- Expedited delivery prevented a 10-week delay in the
completion schedule, assuring early production.
