INTEQ Runs A Complex Penta-Combo LWD Service in Brazil
INTEQ achieved a flawless performance while drilling the 8-1/2" horizontal section of a well in Brazil. A complex penta-combo BHA (AutoTrak™,
OnTrak™,
LithoTrak™, StarTrak™, and
TesTrak™ services) was run together with
Reservoir Navigation and
aXcelerate services to optimize well placement and telemetry performance. Telemetry data rates in excess of 18 bps were achieved while drilling, enabling the real-time transmission of high quality 64 sector images for the first time in Brazil. These were replicated in real-time to a remote operating center.
Hughes Christensen Performs 24" Casing Drilling Run in Offshore Congo
The first worldwide 24" Hughes Christensen casing drilling offshore job was recently performed in Pointe-Noire, Congo. The customer wanted to run 20" casing in a tangent section without using a conventional drilling BHA. The 24"
EZCase™ bit was run without any problems from 132 m (433 ft) to 199 m (653 ft) at 8.85 m/hr, using a drive sub as the driving mechanism. Although hard stringers were encountered, the bit managed to drill flawlessly and TD the well. Cementing was performed through the EZC nozzles and no problems were reported. The drill out was accomplished with a 16"
Genesis™ bit.
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids Aids Successful Drilling through Troublesome Sudair Formation in Saudi Arabia
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids has successfully used its
PERFORMAX™ and
MAX-BRIDGE™ systems while drilling a 12" hole section through the Ghazal field in Saudi Arabia. The customer elected to use the PERFORMAX mud system to drill through the troublesome Sudair formation after experiencing hole instability problems with a competitive system. The system was converted to MAX-BRIDGE just prior to drilling the depleted Khuff C formation. These severely depleted formations were drilled trouble-free and without differential sticking problems when using the MAX-BRIDGE bridging fluid. The system was converted back to PERFORMAX just prior to drilling the reactive, unstable Khuff D and Unayza formations. Casing was then run to bottom and cemented with no problems. Due to the combination of wellbore stability and bridging provided by PERFORMAX and MAX-BRIDGE systems, the clients geologists were able to detect formation tops on the basis of clear resolution and the quality of the acquired LWD formation evaluation data.
Baker Atlas Performs Logging-While-Fishing to Save Two Days of Rig Time in the Gulf of Mexico
Baker Atlas recently encountered a stuck tool string at 6700 ft (3155 m) while logging a well in the Gulf of Mexico. The Baker Atlas crew recommended logging-while-fishing. Oversize sheave wheels were sent to the rig, and the job was completed successfully. The operation saved the customer two days of rig time by not having to strip over, condition the hole, and then start a
Pipe-Conveyed Logging (PCL) operation to finish the job.
Baker Oil Tools Installs First Multilateral HOOK Hanger System in Elk Hills Field, California
Baker Oil Tools installed the first
Multilateral HOOK Hanger™ System in Californias Elk Hills field. The lower lateral was drilled out of 7" casing to a TD of 5780 ft (1762 m) and a 4-1/2" slotted liner was placed below a Liner Hanger Packer. The whipstock was positioned and the upper lateral was drilled to a TD of 5024 ft (1531 m). After retrieving the whipstock, a 4-1/2" slotted liner was placed with two 4-1/2" RE Water Reactive Swell Packers for shale isolation below a 4-1/2" x 7" HOOK Hanger. The HOOK Hanger/Swell Packer assembly was installed and set flawlessly.
Baker Hughes Installs Intelligent Multilateral Completion and Production System in the UK North Sea
Combined Baker Hughes technologies were utilized for the first intelligent completion and production system in the UK North Sea. Centrilift installed an encapsulated
electrical submersible pumping (ESP) system featuring a Centurion™ pump and a ProductionQuest
SureFlo™ downhole monitoring system. This was part of an intelligent multilateral well completion using Baker Oil Tools
Excluder2000™ screens. INTEQ drilled the 8-1/2" and 6-1/2" lateral sections using the
AutoTrak™ X-Treme™ technology. The intelligent production system is producing 8,000 barrels of oil per day.
