OASIS™
Process and Application Engineering Service Optimize Drilling Services
for Gulf of Mexico Deep Gas Well
Baker Hughes
OASIS™ process and the
Application Engineering Service were recently applied successfully
on a Gulf of Mexico deep gas well. An S-shaped directional profile was
drilled through severe abnormal pressures to a target zone below 12,000
ft (3658 m) TVD. The Application Engineering team integrated the
services of
INTEQ
directional drilling, drilling motors, AutoTrak™ system, Triple Combo
MWD/LWD, Pressure Management Services, and Surface Logging Systems with
a
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids
oil-base mud system and
Hughes Christensen
drill bits—Tricone™, ZX™ PDC, and motor steerable PDC. The entire well
was drilled with zero downhole tool failures and no hole cleaning
issues. Casing runs went smoothly with strings set at required depth.
INTEQ Performs Geosteering with LithoTrak™ Real-Time Density Imaging for Offshore Saudi Arabia Well
INTEQ recently delivered real-time wellbore imaging services for an offshore Saudi Arabia well. Uncertainty about the geological structure required that
LithoTrak 16-sector density images be transmitted real time to accurately navigate a 3555-ft (1084-m) 8-1/2" reservoir section. The image was transmitted directly to the client geosteering hub via
RigLink(SM) satellite data transfer service to accurately geosteer the well. Additionally, 16-sector real-time density images were transmitted with almost 100% decoding throughout the run. Through proper pre-job planning and execution, all requirements were met to enable collaboration between key decision makers while the well was being drilled. The images were processed real-time to determine the azimuthal density of the geological structure as drilling progressed. The structural information enabled the customers geoscientists to make informed decisions about wellbore placement in real time.
Hughes Christensen GTX Tricone™ Bit Sets Saudi Arabia Field Record
A Hughes Christensen 28"
GTX large-diameter Tricone bit set a Saudi Arabia field record. The o-ring sealed bit drilled the longest section in the field of 2125 ft (648 m) with the fastest ROP of 37.6 ft/hr. This was 41% more footage and 31% faster than the closest competitor offset. The team met the operators objective to drill vertically through the Khafji formation from casing to casing with the fastest ROP to TD. Comparing the averages of two GTX bit runs in this field to the competitors top two average offsets, the HCC ROP was 21% faster.
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids RHEO-LOGIC Fluid Minimizes Fluid Losses for Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Well
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids has recently finished drilling the
deepest, hottest interval to date with its
RHEO-LOGIC constant rheology synthetic-based fluid system.
RHEO-LOGIC is designed to minimize downhole mud losses through
reduced surge pressures and ECD management in deepwater wells.
The system is engineered to mitigate the detrimental effects
that cold water temperatures and pressures have on the
rheological properties of conventional SBM. The well is located
in the Green Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico. The 9-1/2" x 11"
section was drilled to 29,467' MD (23,534' TVD) in 4,427' feet
of water with a bottomhole circulating temperature of 218° F.
Approximately 7,000 ft. of hole was drilled in this interval
with minimal mud losses while building angle from 32° to 78°.
The RHEO-LOGIC system enabled the operator to drill over 1,300
ft. below the deepest-known producing horizon, resulting in a
significant increase in the net oil reserves.
Baker Atlas Sets World Record by Recovering Fluid Samples from a 75° North Sea Well
Baker Atlas has set a world record for deploying the
RCI® service on wireline by recovering fluid samples in a 75° North Sea well. Recommendations allowed the customer to avoid spending unnecessary rig time recovering samples on drill pipe. The RCI service was conveyed using the following deployment solutions: a crush resistant 490 multi-conductor wireline that worked reliably after being exposed to 13:1 wireline tension ratios in the well, Multi-conductor Releasable Cable Head (MRCH), hydraulic wireline jars and RCI flywheels. During one of the sampling runs, the tools became stuck twice in the borehole and both times the field crew activated the hydraulic jars to free the tools immediately. Due to the efficient acquisition of RCI data recovery in this well, the customer asked Baker Atlas to configure the
XMAC® and
EARTH Imager® services with flywheels and run them in the same well. The reconfigured instruments recovered high-quality data in a single wireline run with minimal rig time.
Baker Oil Tools Providing EQUALIZER™ Completions in Vankor Green Field, Eastern Siberia
Baker Oil Tools is working on the Vankor Green Field development in Eastern Siberia. Baker Oil Tools is providing
EQUALIZER completions for 29 wells in the customers 2008 first phase development program. The equipment consists of 29 km of EQUALIZER with
EXCLUDER™ screen, 464 (oil/water) swellable packers and 29 sets of Hydraulic Set Liner Hangers systems. The vast Vankor Field is located in the northern part of the giant Krasnoyarsk Region in Eastern Siberia and is a strategic production growth source, with proven reserves of more than 945 million barrels of oil.
Centrilift Takes Over 1000th Well for ESP Alliance in Indonesias Duri Field
Centrilift recently took over its 1000th well for a major ESP Alliance in Sumatra, Indonesia. Since April 2003, the Centrilift Duri Field Service Group has installed 2637
electrical submersible pumping (ESP) systems, which included running 2.9 million feet of cable. Currently, there is a cumulative 83,738 horsepower installed throughout the contract area of operations.
