Centrilift Exceeds One-Year Run for Extreme Temperature ESP System
Centrilift has achieved its first extreme temperature
ESP system run time in excess of one year and its still running. The event culminates a four-year R&D investment to develop a reliable extreme temperature ESP system capable of operating in fluid temperatures up to 220° C (430° F). The milestone was achieved on a Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) project in Alberta, Canada. This particular well produces fluid temperatures over 190° C (375° F) and is Centrilifts hottest well at the project.
INTEQ Adds MagTrak® and Resistivity Imaging to LWD Suite in Saudi Arabia
INTEQ has introduced the MagTrak service to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The tool was run in combination with
OnTrak®,
LithoTrak®,
TesTrak®, StarTrak® and
AutoTrak® services. The StarTrak service provided memory resistivity images with 120 sectors and 360º wellbore coverage. The TesTrak service provided 100% seal efficiency, giving reliable drawdown mobility measurements that were useful for the calibration of the NMR permeability. LithoTrak porosity measurements will be used as reference for this field trial since the competitors wireline NMR tool became stuck due to the high pressure differential. Operational support was provided in real time through the
BEACON center in Al Khobar.
Hughes Christensen EZCase™ Casing Bit Solves Permafrost Problems, Cuts Costs
Hughes Christensens
EZCase casing bit system recently cut drilling costs in Canada’s Mackenzie Delta area. The region is characterized by a thick permafrost section up to 2000 ft in depth. During the drilling process, mechanical heat melted the frozen layer resulting in extreme hole enlargement, hole instability and stuck pipe. HCC engineers recommended the EZCase casing drill bit combined with mud chilling technology and controlled drilling parameters. The tools were run on two wells with outstanding results, allowing the operator to drill and set casing through the problematic zones in one operation. The major cost savings came from reduced ice road construction. The impact of the EZCase system was particularly significant while drilling the second well because it allowed engineers to eliminate an entire casing string.
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids Performs Industrys First Alpha-Beta Gravel Pack Using an Invert-Emulsion Carrier Fluid
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids and a national oil company have recently executed the industrys first successful alpha-beta pack using an
invert-emulsion gravel pack carrier fluid (IEGPCF). The fluid delivered a near-perfect alpha-beta gravel pack where 107% of the expected gravel volume was pumped without any losses. This allowed the operator to drill and gravel pack two reservoir sections separated by a reactive shale section, eliminating the costs associated with drilling a second well. The technology will reduce the number of wells needed to drill equivalent reservoir drains, saving millions of dollars in drilling/completion costs.
Baker Atlas Completes First Pipe-Conveyed Logging (PCL) Job in Libya
Baker Atlas recently completed its first high-profile, pipe-conveyed logging job in Libya. The job was completed in a single run where the toolstring was conveyed using drillpipe over a section with deviations up to 85°; the logging program included natural
Gamma Ray (GR),
Reservoir Characterization Instrument (RCI),
Cross-Multipole Array Acoustilog (XMAC-F1),
Well Geometry Instrument (WGI) and
Circumferential Borehole Imaging Log (CBIL) services. The RCI took twenty-eight pressure tests, the CBIL images were acquired in high-resolution mode at 60 spf, and the XMAC-F1 service was run in full-wave monopole, inline and cross-dipole modes. After completing the job, the client expressed great satisfaction with the data quality and job efficiency.
Baker Oil Tools Completes 90th Well in China's Bohai Bay CFD Development
Baker Oil Tools has completed the 90th well in the Bohai Bay CFD development. Starting in 2004, this heavy oil development has included a variety of
sand control completions (horizontal openhole gravel pack, horizontal openhole gravel pack with zonal isolation, single-zone and one-trip multi zone cased hole frac pack, single-zone and one-trip multi zone cased hole circulating gravel pack, openhole stand alone screen, and cased-hole stand alone screen). Additionally, the
FLOGARD™ Reservoir Control Valve was specially developed for this project and has seen successful application in almost 80 of the wells. When combined with shrouded ESP completions, the reservoir control valve has proven its value during the workover operations performed.
Baker Petrolite Providing Chemical Management Services in East Texas
A super major has selected Baker Petrolite as the exclusive provider of
Chemical Management Services (CMS) to their East Texas operating unit after extensive review of competitive alternatives that included HS&E, commercial, technical, and personnel skill comparisons. The super major also placed significant emphasis on the assessment of the strength and maturity of the overall business relationship with potential providers. The competitive review process is a window that can provide insight into how these business relationships will be managed and developed both today and tomorrow.

MICRO-WASH System Unlocks Productivity on Two Prolific Deepwater Angola Wells for Incremental Value of $1.7 Million per Day
In Angola's deepwater Rosa field, wells and screens were damaged and plugged by oil-based mud filter cake. Initial production was only 900 bopd from two wells that were expected to produce 25,000 bopd.
After significant investment in drilling and well remediation without success, Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids applied its
MICRO-WASH High Definition Remediation System with coiled tubing unit. Following a 24-hour flow-back period, the production log indicated that the crude oil was flowing through 100% of the completion screens in both wells.
As a result, the reservoir was effectively remediated and skin damage in each well was reduced from 660 and 800 to 15 and 16 respectively. The production index for each well increased from nearly 0 to 75 and 130 respectively. Production increase of 24,000 bopd yielded incremental revenue of $1.7 million per day.
