Major New Baker Hughes Facility in Dubai
Baker Hughes Facility in Dubai
Baker Hughes will celebrate the official grand opening of a major new facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on February 14, 2008. The new center will be an important resource for the company’s growing business in the Middle East and the entire Eastern Hemisphere.

Located on a 25-acre site in the Techno Park at the Jebel Ali Free Zone, the Baker Hughes complex includes the Middle East Asia Pacific (MEAP) Region Headquarters and the Eastern Hemisphere Education Center, as well as an operations building and a manufacturing plant. More than 800 full-time employees will work at the site.

Baker Oil Tools Installs First RAM Multilateral System on Alaska’s North Slope
Baker Oil Tools has achieved the first successful installation of the new RAM Multilateral System in Alaska's North Slope. The RAM is a TAML Level 3 and 5 multilateral system developed with the unique ability to continuously rotate the liner or screens into the lateral bore while simultaneously landing the multilateral junction. This ability has become increasingly necessary in the long horizontal wells drilled on the North Slope. The system was run inside 9-5/8" casing with an 8-1/2" casing exit window cut at approximately 8,400 ft (2560 m) MD with 80° inclination, and 8-1/2" open hole drilled to roughly 17,100 ft (5212 m) MD. Approximately 8,700 ft (2652 m) of 4-1/2" slotted liner was rotated to TD as the RAM junction was landed. Other BOT equipment used with the RAM system were a WindowMaster® G2 Casing Exit system and an MLZXP Liner Hanger Packer.

INTEQ LWD Provides Seismic Calibration for a U.S. Shale Gas Exploration Well
INTEQ has successfully delivered an Answers While Drilling solution for a shale gas exploration well onshore U.S. INTEQ provided critical expert advice and real-time service. High quality StarTrak® electrical images in this challenging environment provided valuable structural and sedimentological interpretation. The findings highlighted deficiencies in the seismic model, which resulted in the alteration of the subsurface mapping, leading to enhanced completion planning based on fracture analysis. Accurate SoundTrak compressional and quadrupole shear velocities provided crucial calibration of the seismic velocities.

Hughes Christensen PDC Bit Sets Offshore Nigeria Field Record
A Hughes Christensen 12-1/4" HCD607 PDC bit has set a record run in the Okan field offshore Nigeria. The bit delivered the fastest penetration rate drilling the 12-1/4" section 7196 ft (2193 m) at an average ROP of 145 ft/hr (44.2 m/hr), 28% faster than other bit types that had been used in the field. With less vibration and stick/slip, the directional technology penetrated the Agbada formation in One Fast Run™, reaching TD in 49.5 hours.

Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids RHEO-LOGIC Fluid Reduces Risks for Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Well
Baker Hughes Drilling Fluids reports another successful application of RHEO-LOGIC® constant rheology synthetic base mud (SBM) on a deepwater exploration well in the Gulf of Mexico. While tripping in the hole with 13-5/8" casing at 17,195 ft (5241 m), problems were encountered with the traveling block, suspending operations for five days. During this time, the casing was hung off bottom in the open hole with no circulation or pipe movement. It was anticipated the casing would be stuck in place nearly 5500 ft (1676 m) off bottom. Contingency plans were formulated and preparations were made to free the casing. When operations resumed, unexpectedly, the casing was not stuck and casing running operations began without problems and without non-productive time. Afterwards, the well was cemented with full returns. The challenges encountered on the well showcased the performance of RHEO-LOGIC in eliminating risks and non-productive time encountered on costly deepwater operations.

Baker Atlas Performs Simultaneous Three-Well Perforating Operation in the Barnett Shale Field
Baker Atlas performed a simultaneous three-well wireline perforating operation in the Barnett Shale field. The three horizontal wells were drilled parallel to each other with a 500-foot lateral spacing. Three cased hole trucks and cranes were deployed, and crews completed the four-day, round-the-clock operation without lost-time under cramped, difficult conditions. After a series of pump-down dummy runs, a total of 34 perforating guns and 17 composite frac plugs were deployed without incident. Prior to this operation, crews ran Radial Cement Bond Logs and deployed Tubing-Conveyed Perforating guns to evaluate and perforate the first stage of the multi-stage completions.

Centrilift Installing Seabed Booster Systems with ProductionQuest Gauges in Deepwater Gulf of Mexico
Centrilift is working on two seabed booster systems for a development project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The systems are the first seabed horizontal electrical submersible pumping (ESP) systems planned in the Gulf and the deepest seabed pump installation worldwide with the world’s highest differential pressure boost. ProductionQuest downhole gauges are also being used.
