Baker Hughes Announces March 2007 Rig Counts

HOUSTON, April 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Baker Hughes Incorporated (NYSE: BHI; EBS) announced today that the international rig count for March 2007 was 994, up 13 from the 981 counted in February 2007, and up 96 from the 898 counted in March 2006. The international offshore rig count for March 2007 was 283, down 3 from the 286 counted in February 2007 and up 9 from the 274 counted in March 2006.

The US rig count for March 2007 was 1,749, up 13 from the 1,736 counted in February 2007 and up 198 from the 1,551 counted in March 2006. The Canadian rig count for March 2007 was 392, down 243 from the 635 counted in February 2007 and down 228 from the 620 counted in March 2006.

The worldwide rig count for March 2007 was 3,135, down 217 from the 3,352 counted in February 2007 and up 66 from the 3,069 counted in March 2006.

Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity.
