GeoFORM Conformable Sand Management System

Improve reliability through total conformance

In an openhole environment, the GeoFORM system conforms to the borehole. Morphic™ technology used in the GeoFORM system was developed through extensive laboratory research and uses state-of-the-art shape memory polymer (SMP) that is manufactured to a desired shape and size and placed on the outside of base pipe, similar to conventional screens. Upon reaching bottomhole temperature, the Morphic material expands to its original shape to contact the borehole wall. It conforms to the hole’s abnormalities and provides a positive stress on the formation. This positive stress controls sand migration through stabilization of the near-wellbore region, providing value and efficiency to the overall operation and offering superior reliability over conventional sand control methods.

Eliminate potential problems—before they happen

The GeoFORM system provides a unique sand management solution with a systems approach. Baker Hughes leverages resources internally, such as rock mechanics, logging, and reservoir analysis, to analyze and diagnose potential issues before they occur. This approach can provide significant savings by addressing the issues before they impact production and costly remediations are required.

Save expenses through a smaller footprint and better design

A smaller footprint translates to less equipment and fewer resources topside, fewer hours rigging up and down, and fewer logistical issues related to transportation of fluids, pumping equipment, and gravel pack sand. Warehouse capacity needs are reduced. Lower head count and fewer personnel at the rig site are required. The system can withstand compaction over time and not risk loss of sand control. Reducing installation cost as well as the frequency to remediate will save money and reduce the HSE exposure.
