The demand for electricity is growing, right along with the cost of producing it. Rising prices for natural gas and distillate fuel are hurting both suppliers and consumers. While lower quality, heavy fuel oils (HFOs) represent a cheap alternative fuel for power generation, they can also result in increased maintenance and less unit availability.

The Baker Petrolite MAGnate™ fuel treatment services helps gas turbine (GT) operators switch to cheaper HFOs, confident in the knowledge that their units will continue to run reliably while greatly reducing the cost of power generation.

A G.E. Frame 7EA gas turbine on full load consumes approximately 14 metric tonnes of fuel per hour. The current price differential between the cost of HFOs and diesel is approximately USD 500 per tonne. This equates to a gross fuel cost saving of USD 7,000 per hour.
