Rigless Intervention System

Efficiency and safety without the rig

Baker Hughes rigless intervention system (RIS) is a unique offshore technology designed for a variety of projects– multiwell abandonments, conductor pre-installations or workovers–anywhere in the world. A technological breakthrough in offshore applications, the RIS is a superior alternative to conventional intervention systems, significantly improving efficiency and enhancing safety at the wellsite.

Advanced Multiwell Intervention Capabilities

Rigless efficiency

The built-for-purpose system has numerous advantages over traditional casing jacks and workover rig methods. The RIS improves response time when liftboat availability is tight and increases efficiency, cost savings and safety when compared to conventional rig mobilization and services.

Its lightweight, modular design is pinned in sections for fast erection without welding or cutting. At only 85 tons (77 mt), the entire system is easily transported and installed without derrick barge support. Once erected, the RIS provides a large work area to enhance safety.

With its own jacking system, the RIS moves quickly and independently between well slots and rows to speed intervention. Efficiency is enhanced by built-in primary and secondary diesel power packs that make the RIS a self-contained unit. In addition, the need for a platform crane or costly crane barge is eliminated. Instead, the only requirement for the system in abandonment applications is an economical rental crane positioned alongside it.

Integrated abandonment services

The RIS is an integral part of Baker Hughes broad scope of abandonment capabilities, which include tubular services; cementing and coiled tubing services; multi-string cutting services, section milling, wireline and a complete range of tools, from bridge plugs to cement retainers.

Our full package of capabilities enables safe and efficient abandonment applications and wellsite reconditioning for continued operations, as necessary. Our services form the basis for an integrated approach to wellsite management, while our engineers are experienced in designing customized intervention solutions specific to operators’ needs. And every project benefits from our commitment to safety and training throughout the entire Baker Hughes organization.
