Operators Save More Than USD 430,000* on Difficult SAGD Well

Baker Hughes Xtreme Performance series ESP systems

Harsh operating conditions

The SAGD fields are one of the harshest and most difficult environments for ESP applications. An operator in the Foster Creek oil sands in Alberta, Canada experienced regular failures with ESP systems in a SAGD well. The well’s mean time between failures was 365 days, and the operator wanted a longer run life and lower costs.

ESP run life was critical to the well’s profi tability, because workovers are extremely expensive. Production downtime and remote rig locations are the primary causes of high workover costs. The operator’s equipment reliability was challenged by high temperatures, sand production and gas break out of maturing well, which are common in SAGD applications.
