Dual ESP Systems Increased Dewatering 163% at Nevada Gold Mine

High horsepower system boosted pumping capacity to 3,000 hp per well

A northern Nevada gold mine operator was drilling to a depth of approximately 2,600 ft to dewater strip mining operations. Three 24-in. diameter dewatering wells were drilled around the mine costing USD 1.5 million each. Even a traditional 2,000 hp electrical submersible pumping (ESP) system configuration did not draw down the water quickly enough as the mine deepened.

Target pump rates were as high as 4,000 gal/min with a pump setting depth of 2,400 ft through 133/8-in. tubing.

This customer previously used line shaft turbine pumps from a much shallower depth, each of which cost over USD 1 million to install but were limited in overall production.
