Extreme Borehole Seismic Reduces Costs and Time in Qatar Operations
SeisXplorer Service Delivers Detailed Reservoir ImagingIn Qatar, we used the SeisXplorer service to complete one of the largest series of super 3D VSP surveys ever undertaken. Each survey needed approximately 12 days to complete, acquired 1.5 million traces per survey and used more than 25 million traces to produce a super 3D VSP.
For all the surveys, we used the MaxiWave tool with 100, three-component digital receivers. All 100 levels used the same source signature, so the seismic wavelet at each depth level was identical. The tool was deployed using a standard wireline unit in less than 8 hours. The data was transmitted in real time and simultaneously recorded by the Ardiseis™ high-resolution, surface seismic crew using the HFVS™ technique.
After acquiring standard zero-offset surveys, surface seismic data was continuously recorded and GPS time stamped using the Wavelab™ dedicated recording system to synchronize downhole and surface recording systems. Based on the results, the contractor expects to order more surveys in 2010.
Prior to the Qatar surveys, we completed several other commercial applications using the SeisXplorer service in North Kuwait, offshore Saudi Arabia and Oman.
