Shale Engineering Supports a Billion Dollar Investment in Montney Shale Play

Talisman hoped to not only to develop a shale play within the 51,000 acre reserve, but to also investigate the economic viability of a gas-to-liquids fuels plant in western Canada.
Baker Hughes Reservoir Development Services (RDS) used a multidisciplinary team of experts, including Gaffney, Cline & Associates (GCA), Geomechanics International (GMI), Baker Hughes Geoscience, and BJ services to assess the technical merits of the play. The integrated RDS team supplied experts covering disciplines in geophysics, geology, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, drilling, completions, facilities, and related costs, as well as knowledge of the gas-toliquids industry.
Assessment efforts included evaluating the shale gas potential at the subsurface, the surface, and infrastructure levels, providing a comprehensive technical evaluation. RDS, along with their affiliates, efficiently addressed complex technical and logistical issues in-depth, using their established “shale engineering” approach. Additionally RDS supplied geomechanical and reservoir simulation models that are better suited to predict long-term shale production performance compared to the usual “type curve” approaches. From the RDS integrated assessment, the client was able to properly assess the reserve and enter a partnership for a commercially viable play.
