GeoFORM System Provided Option to Produce a Well Previously Shut In While Waiting for Injector Permit

Baker Hughes achieved sand-free production

The client was in the planning stages of re-completing a well into a water injector. Since it could take up to a year to receive a permit, the client saw economical value in completing and producing the well during the waiting period. The client was looking for a quick, cost-efficient sand control solution that would be easily retrieved when the injector permit was approved. To reduce cost, the client also wanted to avoid the need to mobilize the multiple pumping units and large amounts of chemicals required to do a standard gravel pack operation.

The operator chose to have Baker Hughes install the patented GeoFORM™ conformable sand management system using Morphic™ shape memory polymer (SMP) technology over other completion types—due to its cost effectiveness, simple installation method, and effective filtration characteristics— and with multiple product line disciplines of Baker Hughes, including Sand Control, Pressure Pumping, and Artificial lift. A standard SC-2™ gravel pack packer was selected for its performance and proven track record for retrievability.
