GeoFORM System Reduced Installation Time
Baker Hughes installed the world’s first openhole GeoFORM conformable sand management systemTo qualify the patented Baker Hughes GeoFORM™ system for larger future opportunities, a client operating in the Adriatic Sea identified a target well and zone for this first openhole installation. The target zone for this system was located below several other planned production intervals. The GeoFORM system provided a simple cost-effective total conformance sand control solution. The system does not require removal of the filter cake before installation, allowing for minimal fluid losses as well as minimizing the risk of exposing the fluid-sensitive formation.
Due to unexpected high water contact, only 26 ft (8 m) of the planned ~147 ft (~45 m) production interval was completed. The GeoFORM system was installed using field-proven CS-300™ gravel pack running tools. After the production packer was set, the activation fluid was spotted to initiate deployment of the Morphic™ filtration media to the borehole. The upper completion also was being prepared for installation.
Following the installation of the upper completion zones, a cleanup run was made with coiled tubing. An initial 24-hour production test was performed to qualify the production zone and the new GeoFORM completion assembly. The initial gas production rate was 1,348 MCF (38,000 cubic meters/day) with 995 psi (70 Kg/cm2). Only 1.77 cubic feet/hr (50 liters/hour) of water collected on surface at the end of the cleanup phase. This production should be considered good and promising, based on the 26-ft production interval and a non-clean sand.
