Corrosion Inhibitor Eliminated Glycol Unit Problems
Baker Hughes improved product quality and reduced plant failuresA major producer in South Alabama experienced excessive failure rates in an ethylene glycol system used for natural gas liquids extraction. Corrosion failures and plugging associated with solids were frequently experienced in the exchange region of the system. Severe foaming was a common occurrence because of the high hydrocarbon carryover and solids contamination in the glycol. A yearly turnaround was scheduled to remedy this problem.
Baker Hughes was one of five specialty chemical companies called to assess this problem and submit potential solutions to enhance the system’s operating efficiency. The other four companies decided not to participate when they viewed the severity of the problem.
