ScaleCURE Reduced Down Time in GOM

Baker Hughes scale dissolver helped customer recover stuck tools

An operator in the Gulf of Mexico „ (GOM) encountered stuck wireline „ tools and coiled tubing at a depth of 6,800 ft (2073 m) during routine well maintenance. Wellbore debris samples were circulated out of the well and sent „ to the Baker Hughes supercenter laboratory in Broussard, La. for a treatment recommendation to clear „ the downhole obstruction.

The Baker Hughes laboratory team used X-ray analysis to determine that the wellbore debris samples were mostly composed of barium sulfate (barite) scale. After further testing, the debris was found to be 35% soluble after an eight-hour soak at 200°F (93°C) in ScaleCURE™ treatment fluid for acid-insoluble scales.

The remedial process consisted of pumping 3,500 gallons of ScaleCURE treatment down the coiled tubing and circulating it back up the annulus across the baritescale obstruction in the production tubing/ coiled tubing annulus. The well was shut in, and the treatment was allowed to soak for 24 hours. Following the shut-in period, the operator was able to trip the tubing and wireline out of the wellbore.

The application of ScaleCURE treating fluid allowed the operator to recover 100% of the tubing and wireline from the wellbore, eliminating expensive fishing operations and further lost rig time.
