SeisXplorer Service Reduced Costs and Time in Qatar Operations

Baker Hughes delivered detailed, seismic reservoir imaging

In Qatar, the Baker Hughes SeisXplorer service was used to complete one of the largest series of extreme, 3D VSP surveys ever performed. A typical survey averaged 5.5 million traces acquired over 10 days.

The MaxiWave array tool with 100, 3C digital receivers was deployed in 10 hours on standard, seven-conductor wireline during a stand-alone rigless operation. Simultaneously, 3D, VSP data was recorded in real time using GPS to synchronize records with the Ardiseis™ HFVS™ high-resolution surface seismic crew.

A series of extreme operations such as these were only possible because of excellent planning, backup and coordination among the crews. Additional surveys are planned in 2010.

Throughout the operation, both the client and the seismic crews recognized and appreciated the Baker Hughes commitment to the highest standards of health safety, and environmental practices.

Prior to the Qatar surveys, several other commercial applications using the SeisXplorer service were completed in North Kuwait, off and onshore Saudi Arabia and Oman.
