Operator saves nearly $500,000 in two sections
Using customized BHAs in a total systems approach for two offshore sections in the Middle East, an operator set a record for the fastest drilling time and saved nearly a half million dollars.
We recommended the Baker Hughes 9 1/2-in. Ultra™ XL motor with a 23-in GTX Tricone™ roller cone drill bit to kick off from vertical and build inclination to 16 deg. This combination drilled 3,122 ft [952 m] in a single run of 48 drilling and 56 circulating hr. ROP increased 38%.
In the second run for the 23-in. section, an 11 1/4-in. Ultra X motor and a PDC drilled the final 1,220 ft [372 m] to TD in 44 hr with a 78% ROP improvement. The 2D well trajectory was executed exactly as planned.
Total saving compared with the plan was $465,000.
