Operator saves nearly $1 million

A North Sea operator used a 12 1/4 in. QD507X for a hard-chalk-and-limestone formation. The challenge was to drill an S-shape well to section TD; drill vertical section to 1,535 m, kickoff to 19 deg, and drop back to 0.

Quantec PDC with patented depth-of-cut control technology, which eliminated vibration, drilled this section in One Fast Run™. Stick-slip was not recorded either. ROP of 30 m/hr was 130% faster than the offset of 13 m/hr. The operator saved 2.7 days compared with plan and 950,000 USD.
