Vanguard Directional Tricone Roller Cone Bits

Decrease curve interval drilling time with newest directional roller cone bits

Vanguard Directional tricone roller cone bits are engineered specifically for your intense directional intervals with their demanding side and cyclical force loadings. These more reliable drill bits enable faster TD completion rates in the curves.

Vanguard shirttail and leg hardfacing reduces torque and drag while improving bit stabilization in the hole. This hardfacing package also protects our seals for longer hours.

We introduced a series of diamond insert configurations that sustain a more efficient cutting structure for longer bit life. Diamond Vanguard Heels (DVHs) have been used with quantifiable success in several key markets, including the abrasive curve intervals of the Asia-Pacific region and central US.

Oklahoma operator reduces drilling time 33%

An operator asked us to reduce curve interval drilling time to increase ROI. We recommended our Vanguard Directional Tricone roller cone drill bit with a patented metal-face seal, engineered specifically for this demanding directional drilling application.

We added Diamond Vanguard Heels with diamond gauge to prevent premature heel-row degradation. This technology also maximizes ROP while ensuring seal life to complete the run.

The 8 3/4-in. [222-mm] Vanguard Directional roller cone kicked off smoothly, maintaining excellent steerability while achieving superior ROP and building 90 deg. through shale with sand stringers. Average interval ROP was 33 ft/hr [10 m/hr], a 40% increase compared with the offsets. The operator reduced drilling time 33% in the curve interval to boost ROI.
