ZoneTrak Bit Resistivity
Our ZoneTrak™ bit resistivity LWD service enables early zone detection, reducing drilling cost through hazard mitigation. This fit-for-purpose technology delivers a resistivity measurement at the bit to detect formations just before penetration. This capability adds value for nonproductive time (NPT) and net present value applications.
A relatively short sub approximately 6 ft [2 m] in length with a simple resistivity measurement, the ZoneTrak tool has a transmitting and receiver coil arrangement. An electrical current is passed through the tool body to the drill bit. This current varies depending on the surrounding formations. The receiver coil measures the current when it returns after passing through the formation.
Reduce NPT with casing point selection
ZoneTrak technology adds value in casing point selection. This is where casing needs to be set just prior to penetrating a zone with significantly different pore pressure than the formations above. A common example is drilling through the bottom of salt. This ensures the hole section length is maximized and minimizes risk of kicks and/or blow outs or getting stuck. Our technology enables you to enhance hydrocarbon recovery and reduce NPT.
Acquire valuable rock data with core point selection
ZoneTrak identifies the formation top while drilling at the time of bit penetration to determine the top of the coring point. This helps you to capture a core from the entire interval of interest. When conventional LWD resistivity is used, much more of the target interval will be drilled before it can be identified with confidence. Complete core data from the entire reservoir enables reservoir rock properties to be characterized, offering valuable information about hydrocarbon volume and flow. You’ll also receive rock strength and rock mechanics data for use in completion, production, and drilling hazard mitigation.
