RCI Multitank Carriers

Collect multiple fluid samples in one trip

Baker Hughes multitank carriers are designed to efficiently collect multiple formation fluid samples during a single trip into the well. This process yields cost-effective, high-quality sampling and a significant savings in rig time.

We offer two types of multitank carrier modules with the Baker Hughes Reservoir Characterization Instrument™ (RCI™) service:

  • six-tank carrier for efficient multizone sampling
  • two-tank carrier for HP/HT single-phase sampling.

Obtain more samples with our multitank module
Traditional wireline formation test tools are capable of obtaining only two formation fluid samples. Our multitank module houses six tanks, allowing up to four modules to be combined on a single trip into the hole. This feature allows the combination of 26 tanks in a single RCI run, including the two standard large-volume 4-, 10-, or 20-liter sample tanks. This configuration offers the industry’s highest number of discrete samples and largest total sample volume captured in a single run.

The integrated borehole exit eliminates the need to include a separate borehole exit module when the multitank carrier is used. Our RCI service uses hydraulic sealing valves on each module, which can be positively verified by pumping against the valve to ensure sample integrity.

Reduce phase separation with our two-tank carrier
Our two-tank carrier with single-phase II (SPT II™) sample tanks is another option when configuring the RCI tool for sampling. This option collects six samples per run in hole [4 x DOT tanks + 2 x large volume tanks]. All tanks can be overpressurized to reduce the possibility of phase separation during sample retrieval to surface. The required overpressure value is determined during prejob planning and confirmed in real time with a downhole expansion test.
