Part of that process involves the use of SmartCare™ qualified products and systems to minimize environmental impact during hydraulic fracturing. This family of superior chemistry and technology helps to ensure underground source drinking water remains safe during the well life. SmartCare services’ 14-point checklist of environmental, toxicological, and physical categories evaluate chemical components lets us assess and compare potential product hazards within regulatory guidelines—enhancing limited regulations, or establishing a benchmark when regulations do not exist.

Reduced Wellsite Emissions

Another way Baker Hughes works to reduce a fracturing operation’s environmental footprint is with the company’s Bifuel services. With Bifuel fracturing services, an operator can replace up to 70% of the diesel used to generate hydraulic horsepower (HHP) with cleaner-burning natural gas. Using these specialized Rhino™ Bifuel pumps, Baker Hughes stimulation teams can help reduce air emissions and lower HSE risks with no loss in HHP or any compromise to frac performance.

Fast, Accurate and Full Disclosures
Baker Hughes supports our customers in communicating important information about the chemistry used in hydraulic fracturing including the public disclosure of chemical ingredients used during the hydraulic fracturing process. That is why Baker Hughes endorses FracFocus, the national hydraulic fracturing chemical registry managed by the Groundwater Protection Council and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission.
