VECTRA MFL Pipeline Inspection

Reduce integrity management program cost

The Baker Hughes VECTRA™ high-resolution magnetic flux leakage (MFL) in-line  inspection service reduces integrity management program cost by minimizing verification digs and maintaining full product throughput during inspection.

We offer a better combination of technology, which meets or exceeds pipeline operator requirements, for acquiring accurate metal loss and positional data. This technology includes tri-axial sensors, gas bypass with active speed control, and an onboard inertial measurement unit (IMU); we’re the only service provider that has offered this intelligent pigging solution for more than 15 years.

Reduce dig cost

Our pipeline inspection service reduces the number of required verification digs with accurate data while ensuring you’re digging in the right location. The VECTRA tool’s tri-axial MFL sensors offer high-resolution metal loss data. We continually meet or exceed pipeline operator requirements for detection and sizing of metal loss and deformation.

You can be confident you’re digging in the right location. When you’re looking for an anomaly, our positional accuracy is known to be the best in the industry. This accuracy is better than +/-3.3 ft [1 m], reducing overall dig cost. The tool’s onboard IMU collects the data to calculate a GPS coordinate for every anomaly and feature contained in the final report.

Maintain full product throughput

We inspect gas pipelines at optimum speed for high-resolution data collection while the pipeline maintains full product throughput. There’s no lost gas revenue during a VECTRA tool inspection; you can maintain gas deliveries with uninterrupted service. Our integrated gas bypass system with active speed control is available on all large-diameter VECTRA tools.

Determine if the pipeline has moved

We use the VECTRA tool’s IMU data to calculate bending strain so you’ll know about potential pipeline movement caused by slope instability, frost heave, subsidence, temperature/pressure variations, flooding, upheaval, or new construction impact.
