Fault and Fracture Stability

Analyze subsurface stress, pore pressure, and rock properties to prevent costly problems and improve productivity

By analyzing the stability of faults and fractures, you can prevent major safety and environmental incidents. With the Fault and Fracture Stability module in JewelSuite GeoMechanics, you can quickly model fault structures, stress, and pore pressure and analyze the effects of pressure changes during drilling and production operations.

It is critical to understand and predict the slip potential of faults when making decisions about well placement and design, reservoir compartmentalization and drainage patterns, production strategies, enhanced recovery techniques, and environmental threats from hydrocarbon eruptions and induced seismicity. With the Fault and Fracture Stability module, you are able to run discrete and volume failure analysis to determine if faults or fractures are critically stressed or might become critically stressed. You can also analyze caprock integrity in order to determine the proximal distance to failure if pore pressure communication exists between your reservoir and surrounding rock.

The Fault and Fracture Stability module accelerates your projects and reduces errors. The workflow strip leads you step-by-step through processes and enables even the most novice users to quickly learn the application. The workflow within the Fault and Fracture Stability module can be extended to model the likelihood of failure for fractures as well. The built-in audit trail captures all actions performed for a project and provides auditable and reproducible modeling steps that can easily be converted to workflow automation scripts.

You can use the Fault and Fracture Stability module within JewelSuite GeoMechanics as a standalone application or in combination with other modules such as 1D Model, Wellbore Stability, and 3D Model for an advanced, integrated geomechanical workflow. JewelSuite GeoMechanics is built on the JewelEarth™ development platform so you can easily exchanging data between other JewelSuite applications through shared files, or by dragging and dropping data.
