Social Responsibility
Our social responsibility program is closely aligned with the United Nations Millennium Development goals to alleviate poverty, improve education and health standards, and promote equality. We recognize our responsibility to share our experiences and skills to support national development plans. Our mission is to be the best possible business and social partner, creating value for our customers and improving the lives of the countries’ residents.
Nigeria: supplying desks and chairs
The proper learning environment is important so students can develop to their fullest potential. At the Primary School, Ekara–Onne, Rivers State of Nigeria, the classrooms needed furniture. We supplied 100 desks and chairs. The school’s headmaster called this a “landmark” event.
Ghana: refurbishing a school
When our team visited the Sekondi School for the Deaf where children study and live, they noticed the facility had deteriorated. We supplied 106 double beds and more than 300 mattresses, bed sheets, and pillows, in addition to repainting the dormitory block and replacing broken louver blades. We also supplied mosquito nets.
Gabon: helping students
We supported nine Gabon students in the completion of their studies. Four students, who were at the final stage of their study for a national diploma, each produced a thesis and successfully passed their oral examinations. The other five students we sponsored were all in the middle of their studies: three in master’s degree programs; two, studying for engineering degrees. All of the students spent three months working at a Baker Hughes facility as part of their curriculum.
Equatorial Guinea: improving schools and hospitals
We headed up an effort to contribute school supplies in Luba, Equatorial Guinea; deliver mosquito nets for local employees and their families; provide basic construction supplies to local hospitals; and offer English language classes for national employees.
We requested and received from the government a list of social projects that require funding. We’re also working closely with the US Agency for International Development to develop a strategy for long-term community investments.
