Social Responsibility

Assisting our community

Baker Hughes Canada is actively involved in the local community. In Calgary, for example, we have been a proud supporter of the United Way campaign. In 2009, our Calgary employees raised more than $25,000, which was matched by the company. This generous donation of over $50,000 assists in meeting the immediate needs of the people living in the community and enabling United Way to invest in long-term strategies to address the root causes of Calgary’s social issues.

Our Calgary employees adopted a family from Bolivia as part of the 2009 Christmas Charity Campaign. They set up a donation bin in the reception area where employees could drop off their contributions. Employees excelled in their generosity and dropped off anything from food to furniture.

A few days before Christmas, a team of Baker Hughes elves delivered the gifts to the family. They were emotionally overwhelmed by the generosity and expressed their sincere gratitude.

Through continuing fund-raising efforts since 2002 at our annual Baker Hughes Charity Golf Tournament, our employees have raised more than $180,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of St. John’s. The organizing committee continues to pull out all the stops to create a one-of-a-kind event for customers, suppliers, and industry partners to support this important community organization.

This year, the July 30 event was at the prestigious Glendenning Golf Course in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This was a sold-out success with more than 150 golfers and 25 volunteers participating. Highlighting the day was an appearance by Republic of Doyle star Krystin Pellerin. Our Canadian leadership team was represented also. This year, we raised approximately $23,000 to help the Boys and Girls Club’s offer children and youth the opportunities they need to overcome barriers, build confidence, and develop life skills.
