Social Responsibility
Our Norway Geomarket supports charitable initiatives locally and internationally, including the Stroemme Foundation. We worked with the foundation on a three-year program to build Kaputiei town, located outside of Nairobi.
Kaputiei town is for the people of Nairobi who have managed to escape poverty through their own hard work and local microfinance support. More than 2,000 people so far have moved out of the Nairobi slums into this new area, a notable success.
At our local hospital, doctors and nurses decided the children—who require long-term cancer treatment—would feel better if they were given a vacation. The idea was to give them a regular holiday in a sun-filled destination with their family and professional care.
Because the doctors and nurses are doing this on their own time, several local companies—including Baker Hughes—are supporting their efforts. This program began in 2004.
We’re also contributing to our community in other ways. We sponsor employees and their immediate family members volunteering in local initiatives, including children’s sports and charitable work.
