Earthquake safety awareness

We’re working with the American Red Cross on the Urban Earthquake Preparedness Program in high-risk Central Asian countries. Our office in Almaty conducts earthquake safety awareness and training to educate our staff, and family members living in Almaty, on basic survival techniques. We encourage them to develop individual response plans.

During the training, instructors explain the geology and nature of earthquakes while sharing useful Kazakhstan Web resources on this topic.

We also talk about proper behavior during and after an earthquake, family emergency plans, and survival kits. Each participant receives handouts to share with family and friends. Every trainee has an opportunity to test his or her own preparedness.

Increasing driver safety

Driving remains the biggest HSE risk we face each day. Increasing driving safety awareness is one of the region’s top business goals.

We rolled out a driving safety campaign—including a video with a message from our regional president—about the importance of always being aware how quickly an accident can happen.

In addition, we’re promoting a safe driving culture among all employees with passenger observation cards and driver prompt cards about trip planning, staying focused, and avoiding aggressive driving.

Improving journey management is vital. A new journey evaluation risk-based form has been implemented for trips more than 50 km outside a city.

We’re also ensuring specific employees receive defensive driving training. Our new in-vehicle monitoring system ensures real-time driving performance tracking. We’re also honoring the best drivers each quarter.

We believe these steps with our strong management leadership and employee commitment will enable us to reduce driving risk.
