Security costs can be a significant portion of the overall construction or build-out expenditure for new facilities. An effective way of reducing these costs is to embed security into the preplanning stage, develop standardized processes, and accurately assess the facility risk. Improper planning and assessment of risk may lead to the implementation of security controls that exceed requirements, resulting in waste or insufficient controls, which can place people and equipment at unnecessary risk.
