Phoenix Power|scan HE, a 9 mega electron volts (MeV) high-energy Computed Tomography (CT) scanner, leverages cutting-edge technology to scan large, complex parts and assemblies with unmatched speed, precision, and ease of use

The technology enables faster and more precise inspections of large components than ever before.
WUNSTORF, Germany and CINCINNATI, Dec. 2, 2020 – Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business and a world leader in industrial inspection solutions, has announced the launch of its first high-energy Computed Tomography (CT) system, the Phoenix Power|scan HE.
With nine mega electron volts (MeV), the Phoenix Power|scan HE packs 20 times more punch in penetration energy compared to the standard of 450 kiloelectron volts (keV). It can scan and measure internal features of critical, high-density components and assemblies. The parts can be up to two meters in diameter and height and up to 1000 kg in weight. For easy handling and loading, the Phoenix Power|scan HE comes with an integrated crane.
In dual-detector configuration, a Linear Diode Array (LDA) and Digital Detector Array (DDA) detect defects including porosity, foreign material, lack of fusion, positive metals, and trapped powder. The high-energy system also precisely measures internal dimensions of large parts. Additionally, Waygate Technologies has equipped the CT scanner with the company’s unique, patented scatter|correct technology, which delivers high-resolution and impeccable image quality at up to 75% faster scan times, due to fast cone beam scanning at unmatched image quality.
The combination of high penetration energy and image quality makes the Phoenix Power|scan HE the industry’s first high-energy CT scanner that enables inspection of large, dense parts at higher speeds suitable for higher throughput demands in manufacturing environments.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Phoenix Power|scan HE to the non-destructive testing market,” said Nicola Jannis, executive vice president of Waygate Technologies for Baker Hughes. “We continue to advance new technology frontiers with solutions that have a wide range of applications across different industries, such as aviation, space exploration and automotive. We are proud of this system which has been developed especially for users in these tightly regulated industries that are driven to constantly introduce new materials and increase efficiency in production processes.”
The Phoenix Power|scan HE is installed in the Waygate Technologies Customer Solutions Center (CSC) in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S. and is now available for pay-per-scan CT inspection services. Additional systems are planned to be installed at Waygate Technologies CSCs in other regions. The company also offers installing Phoenix Power|scan HE systems on-site at customer facilities.
