Overview

Gain a deeper understanding of fracture permeability and wellbore failure risks with GaffneyCline™ energy advisory’s natural fracture and borehole imaging expertise.

We leverage the Natural Fracture Permeability 1D Analysis (GMCP.320) to hand-pick natural fractures with flexible sinusoids from high-quality borehole images. The resulting measurements of natural fracture orientations, densities, and prevalence give you sharper insights into the fracture permeability of your formation. Armed with this knowledge, you can better pinpoint which subset of observed fractures should be critically stressed to avoid lost circulation risks during drilling or improve production rates.

Our borehole imaging analysis also details the stress state around your borehole to better describe and mitigate wellbore failures. We combine the GMI Imager™ with our deep understanding of wellbore failure mechanics to interpret your image data for geomechanical wellbore features. This work includes:

  • Conducting strict quality control, enhancement, and calibration of borehole images, as required.
  • Carefully analyzing images to avoid interpretation pitfalls, including the effects of acquisition artifacts, borehole quality, and structural fabric for geomechanical modeling.
  • Inputting borehole imaging results into GMI SFIB™ and JewelSuite GeoMechanics™ for in-situ stress analyses.

We help you make sense of this detailed wellbore imaging analysis to:

  • Understand the stress concentrations around a wellbore that might result in tensile or compressional failure of rocks.
  • Identify additional shear failure modes, including the movement of a failure plane towards the wellbore.
  • Develop strategies to constrain the in-situ state of stress, thus reducing lost circulation risks, improving wellbore stability, and boosting production rates.
