Overview

Overview

Capture high-resolution resistivity formation images in conductive mud systems with the STAR Imager™ service from Baker Hughes. The resulting images will help you clearly recognize sedimentary structures in your formation and put you on the path to define the optimal completion strategy for your well.

Gain a detailed understanding of your reservoir’s geology

The STAR Imager service is a wireline logging tool that uses a six-arm, independently articulated carrier and powered stand-off to ensure optimal sensor-to-formation contact, even in highly deviated boreholes. Pads with 24 sensors are mounted on each of the six articulated arms. This results in a total of 144 microresistivity measurements with a vertical and azimuthal resolution of 0.2 in. (5 mm).

The high-resolution resistivity images enhance your reservoir evaluation in a wide range of geological environments—from soft, thinly laminated clastics to highly complex carbonates.

These images provide a wealth of information that you can use to:

  • Differentiate between fracture types
  • Determine near-wellbore stress fields
  • Identify sedimentary facies
  • Interpret your formation’s depositional environment
  • Identify planar features such as bedding, fractures, and faults
  • Interpret stratigraphic features like crossbedding and ichnofabrics
  • Pinpoint borehole wall features like breakout and drilling-induced fracturing

The STAR Imager service can be deployed with the Circumferential Borehole Imaging Log™ (CBIL™) service to simultaneously acquire image datasets. Together, these images help you identify features to analyze structural dip, fracture systems, depositional environments, borehole stability, and net-pay in thinly bedded sequences. These instruments are fully combinable with other wireline logging tools in the Baker Hughes portfolio.
