Our TAPS (Tank Annular Plate Scanning) program is a non-intrusive, above ground tank inspection service that offers the highest probability of detection, all while eliminating the risk and time consumption of man-entry inspection methods. To do this, our ASNT NDT Level Two VT certified inspectors use Higher Order Mode Cluster (HOMC) guided waves to inspect the tank’s annular plate, the area most highly prone to localized corrosion. The unmatched sensitivity of this technology allows for a complete inspection with virtually no dead zone, to detect all cracking, pitting, and corrosion, despite typical obstructions such as the weld toe. Frequently Asked Questions
Does accuracy suffer by not physically entering the tank?

Intrusive methods aren’t just dangerous, time consuming, and costly, they’re also less effective. The inspectors are often unable to properly detect the trapped water and corrosion in the annular plate region, due to the coating and uneven features of the tank’s floor. This area is crucial in the inspection process as it is the root of corrosion, which can then spread to the tank’s shell, bottom plates, and ring wall.

How far into the tank can this technology inspect?

The TAPS technology has the power to equally detect both top and bottom side flaws within 6-12 inches of the tank’s interior, even through coating and the weld toe.

How small of a chime can TAPS work with?

The size of the chime does often create limitations for conventional non-intrusive inspection systems. The strength of HOMC guided waves allow the system to work on chimes as small as 25 millimeters.
