Mohammad Y. Al Qahtani

Senior Vice President – Upstream Saudi Aramco

Mohammed Y. Al Qahtani was appointed Senior Vice President – Upstream in January 2016. His responsibilities include exploration, petroleum engineering, drilling, oil and gas operations, unconventional resources and upstream research and development.  Mohammed is Chairman of the Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company (SASREF), the Dhahran Techno Valley Company Advisory Committee (DTVC), and the University of Hafr Al-Batin Advisory Committee (UOHB). He is a Co-Lead Chairman of the Saudi Aramco Collaboration Oversight Boards at both King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST) and King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), and a Board member of the Bilateral US-Arab Chamber of Commerce. He has previously chaired the Board of Directors for the Aramco Services Company (ASC), a fully owned subsidiary in Houston, Texas. He has served on the Boards of Directors for the Saudi Council of Engineers, the Arabian Geophysical & Surveying Company Ltd. (ARGAS), LUKOIL Saudi Arabia Energy Ltd. (LUKSAR), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers International.  Mohammed has held several management positions in Upstream since joining Saudi Aramco in 1983. In 2008, he was appointed Saudi Aramco’s Chief Petroleum Engineer, and in 2011 he was appointed Vice President – Petroleum Engineering & Development, having held the position of Executive Director from 2009. In 2013, he was appointed Vice President of Saudi Aramco Affairs, and in 2014 he was appointed Vice President of Corporate Planning, responsible for developing and maintaining the company’s short- and long-term strategic planning.  Mohammed holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from KFUPM in 1988. He earned Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in petroleum engineering at the University of Southern California in 1992 and 1996 respectively. Mohammed has also completed several leadership and management development programs, including the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) Program for Executive Development, Lausanne, Switzerland; the Saudi Aramco Management Development Seminar, Washington, D.C.; the Economics of Oil Seminar, London; the Program for Leadership Development, Bahrain; and the Oxford Energy Seminar, London.
