Next-generation Fluid Characterization and Testing Service Improves Reservoir Analysis

HOUSTON, TEXAS (May 7, 2013) – Baker Hughes announced today the global commercialization of its next-generation downhole fluid characterization and testing service, designed to maximize wellsite effectiveness and optimize production in deepwater applications. The RCX™ Sentinel focused sampling service collects and validates the data necessary for reservoir characterization, reducing the risk of subsequent intervention or production facility redesign. The service is part of Baker Hughes’ broader fluid characterization portfolio, which will soon include the FASTrak™ logging-while-drilling service, winner of the 2013 Offshore Technology Conference Spotlight on Technology award.

The wireline-deployed RCX Sentinel service enables operators to capture cleaner formation fluid samples in less than half the time of conventional fluid sampling methods. Designed for applications in which data accuracy and reliability are crucial, the service features a formation-testing probe with two isolated fluid streams to focus formation fluids into a sample inlet while simultaneously extracting more contaminated fluids through a separate inlet. The modular design can be configured to meet specific reservoir characterization objectives while allowing the conveyance of up to 52 sample chambers in a single run. Dual independent fluid analyzers precisely control the sampling operation and ensure that the best quality samples are secured in the shortest time possible.
