Deepwater Gulf of Mexico P&A job sets record
Using the Baker Hughes Deepwater Plug and Abandon System, a Gulf of Mexico operator recently completed a P&A project in 4000 ft + water depth in record time. The operator completed intermediate string operations and wellhead recovery in just two trips. The job could have taken as many as five trips using conventional tools and systems.
On the first run, a 13 5/8-in. casing string was cut and pulled, along with the hanger seals. On the second run, three strings of 20 in., 26 in., and 36 in. conductor casing were cut in less than three hours and the wellhead recovered, setting a new record.
