Overview
Kantori™ optimization services from Baker Hughes deliver continuous, real-time drilling performance improvement by combining AI-enabled analytics, physics-based models, proprietary downhole measurements, and drilling expertise to optimize critical well construction activities. Designed to reduce invisible lost time (ILT), improve consistency, and enhance well delivery, Kantori optimization services provide actionable recommendations and automated insights across four key performance areas.
ROP Optimization
Don’t let a challenging formation slow your progress to target depth (TD). The Kantori optimization services help you reliably reach target depth in fewer drilling days with less risk to downhole tools. It identifies problems before they lead to costly drilling tool damage, poor borehole quality, and significant reductions in penetration rates.
The service automatically receives signals from downhole tools and surface sensors as soon as a problem event is detected. The service displays these events, which include axial, lateral, tangential, and stick-slip vibrations or dysfunctions on a stability heatmap. This map also displays the optimal combination of drilling parameters, including changes to weight on bit and revolutions per minute, to improve rate of penetration (ROP) and minimize tool damage. Users then review the heatmap, confirm prescriptive procedures, and send commands to the bottomhole assembly through the Kantori solution server on the rig.
Stringer Detection
Even the most carefully planned well path can be stymied by a stringer. When your drill bit hits a hard stringer in a softer formation, the sudden change in rock mechanics deflects the drill bit—creating a local dogleg that increases drilling time and costs to TD.
The Kantori optimization services combine real-time drilling measurements of vibration and load to identify high-frequency torsional oscillations in the bottomhole assembly (BHA). These oscillations, which are the leading indicators for real-time stringer detection, guide your drilling team to take the right corrective actions that maintain the well path.
Tripping
Tripping processes to let you safely maximize your pipe-tripping speeds while minimizing the risk of swab or surge events—protecting your wellbore while helping save you time and money.
Tripping takes up approximately 30% of well construction time on most wells. The i-Trak tripping optimization service safeguards against non-productive time (NPT) and ILT during tripping by automatically monitoring, prescriptively advising, and helping control off-bottom movements of drilling and non-drilling assemblies at all depths and phases of the well-construction process.
The Kantori optimization services calculate optimum trip speeds for each direction (run-in or pull-out-of-hole) and operational scenario (pumps-on/pumps-off) at any point in time by leveraging the digital twin and applying a configurable safety margin to the trip speed limit. The service also compensates for pressure and temperature effects in any wellbore environment — offering safe, automated tripping control in deepwater, high-temperature and high-pressure (HP-HT), and managed-pressure drilling (MPD) applications.
Hydraulics & Hole Cleaning
Maintain a safe pressure envelope while drilling by safeguarding against exceeding limits of the borehole’s pore, collapse, and fracture pressures.
The Kantori optimization services automatically calculates and communicates annular pressure regimes, equivalent static density (ESD) and equivalent circulating density (ECD) along the wellbore. If the ESD and ECD curves are projected to exceed the pressure gradient limits anywhere along the wellbore, the service automatically alerts the drilling team to adjust the current mud and drilling parameters to bring ECD back within the desired pressure boundary conditions.
The Kantori solution can also be leveraged to help optimize hole cleaning to maximize drilling ROP and provide early warning of potential stuck-pipe incidents that would otherwise add significant time and cost to your drilling and liner-running jobs.
