Overview
Effective amine salt corrosion control in your crude unit starts with clearly understanding the tramp amines in your overhead system. The TOPGUARD™ field amine measurement service (FAMS) from Baker Hughes reliably identifies and quantifies tramp amines where other methods often fall short.
TOPGUARD FAMS uses liquid ion chromatography (IC), the only proven method to speciate and quantify amines, to accurately measure tramp amines directly from overhead water. The IC-based technology accurately isolates and quantifies:
- Ammonia
- Monoethanolamine (MEA) and methylamine (MA)
- Less common tramp amines, including diethanolamine (DEA) and methyldiethanolamine (MDEA)
TOPGUARD FAMS delivers precise results without interference from common neutralizing amines. Results are available within a few hours, enabling faster and more informed decision-making.
Proactively manage corrosion risks
Optimize your corrosion control strategy by seamlessly integrating TOPGUARD FAMS with the TOPGUARD™ corrosion risk monitor (CRM). The measured tramp amine concentrations are fed to TOPGUARD CRM on the same day of sampling, providing:
- Faster analysis of tramp amine salt risks
- Timely, informed process decisions
- Proactive corrosion risk management
Enhance unit efficiency and profitability
With accurate, timely tramp amine data from TOPGUARD FAMS, you can make smarter operational decisions that enhance crude unit performance and profitability in several ways.
- Improve margins through greater feed flexibility. Knowing your true tramp amine levels minimizes processing limitations, reduces corrosion-related shutdowns, and lets you process discounted crudes containing tramp amines.
- Reduce contaminant removal costs. Precise tramp amine measurements help you treat to the overhead tramp amine target instead of an arbitrary pH and avoid overtreatment during periods of lower contamination.
- Maximize revenue through confident process optimization. By understanding the Integrity Operating Window (IOW) of the tower top temperature, you can optimize product cut yields and reduce tower corrosion for extended equipment life.
