OilView Two-Phase Fluid Saturation Service

Faster alternative to carbon/oxygen logging in light-oil reservoirs

The Baker Hughes OilView™ two-phase fluid saturation service provides through-casing quantitative oil vs. water saturation analysis in light-oil reservoirs, helping to resolve ambiguities in traditional cased-hole formation evaluation techniques. The OilView service provides a faster alternative to carbon/oxygen (C/O) logging by processing pulsed-neutron-induced, high-resolution gamma-ray data acquired by the Reservoir Performance Monitor™ (RPM™) service. The OilView service uses a comprehensive, forward-looking Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) modeling database to calculate oil vs. water saturation, yielding a transparent saturation analysis in light-oil reservoirs.

Faster alternative
Typically, the C/O service of a pulsed-neutron instrument is used to provide oil vs. water saturation in light-oil reservoirs with low or mixed formation water salinity. Compared to other saturation measurement services provided by a pulsed-neutron instrument, the C/O service is logged at a slower speed and has higher inaccuracy.

The OilView service uses a combination of Inelastic and Capture ratios from multiple detectors of the RPM service and MCNP response characterization to deliver oil vs. water saturation. Typically, the OilView service can be logged 20 times faster than conventional C/O logging, saving costly rig time.

Transparent analysis
MCNP modeling provides the capability to generate forward-looking models to predict the response of the curves for varying combinations of mineralogy, formation fluid density, formation gas pressure and density, borehole holdup, and completion configurations. The dynamic curve response algorithm takes into account the variations in porosity, mineralogy, and completions to increase reliability of the measured and processed data.
