A Legacy of Innovation
The Krautkrämer story began in post-war Germany, where brothers Herbert and Josef transformed a modest Cologne garage into the birthplace of Germany's first pulse-echo ultrasonic testing device. This pioneering technology revolutionized non-destructive testing and established what would become a market-leading enterprise.
During the ceremony at the WHU campus in Düsseldorf, Ben Linke, CEO of Waygate Technologies, highlighted how the Krautkrämer technology continues driving innovation today.
From Technical Pioneers to Educational Supporters
Dr. Herbert Krautkrämer's professional development included both technical training as a radio mechanic and academic achievement as a physicist, combining practical and theoretical knowledge while building a business enterprise.
The couple maintained a deep commitment to education throughout their lives, with Dr. Krautkrämer serving as an honorary senator and member of the WHU Foundation's board of trustees since the institution's early years.
Inspiring Future Generations
The newly named Krautkrämer Building will serve as more than a campus landmark—it stands as inspiration for current and future students. As they pass through its doors, they'll be reminded of two visionaries who began with a simple workshop and transformed an industry while supporting education and future innovation.
