Krautkrämer CHAT
Krautkrämer CHAT ultrasonic railway axle testing ndt inspection

High-speed railway and urban train systems, equipped with hollow axles, are frequently used in the transportation industry. Increased travel speeds place higher stresses on these systems requiring special attention to the structural integrity and reliability of trains and their axles.

Krautkrämer's Compact Hollow Axle Tester (CHAT) combines the proven HW probes with Krautkrämer’s high-quality USIP 40 ultrasonic instrument. With up to eight probes in one probe holder, in a diameter range from 30 to 90 millimeters, full A-scan data recording, C-scan displays (separate or merged with TOF correction), and two motorized scanning axes, CHAT offers a typical inspection time of 12 to 15 minutes for an entire axle, while the spiral scan pattern guarantees full coverage of the test object.

We used to be GE Inspection Technologies, now we’re Waygate Technologies, a global leader in NDT solutions with more than 125 years of experience in ensuring quality, safety and productivity.

Product Features
Full Diameter Coverage

The Krautkrämer CHAT's Electronics and mechanics have been designed to cover the entire diameter range.

Diameter Adaptability

The Krautkrämer CHAT rapidly adapts to new diameters just by exchanging centering devices (3 parts in total).

Motorized Motion

The Krautkrämer CHAT features motorized motion (closed control circuits) in a linear direction and for probe holder rotation.

Continuous Rotation

The Krautkrämer CHAT features signal connection through the slip ring to allow continuous rotation of the probe holder and to reduce the inspection time.

Easy Connection

The Krautkrämer CHAT allows for quick pluggable cable connections between trolley and inspection mechanics.

Light Design

The light design of the Krautkrämer CHAT's inspection mechanics allows it to be handled “just by one person” with no need for lifting.

Minimized Oil Loss

The Krautkrämer CHAT includes a closed-loop for oil coupling to minimize oil loss during the inspection.

A-scan Recording

The Krautkrämer CHAT features full post-processing possibilities thanks to A-scan recording.
