Felipe Bayón

CEO, Ecopetrol Group

Felipe Bayón is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ecopetrol Group, the largest oil and gas conglomerate in Colombia and one of the largest in Latin America.

Felipe holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de los Andes and has over 29 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
 
Before assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer in September 2017, he served as Ecopetrol´s Chief Operating Officer. During that time, he oversaw the company’s upstream, midstream, downstream, technology, engineering, projects and marketing operations, as well as research and innovation. 
 
Prior to Ecopetrol, Felipe worked for more than 20 years at BP in Colombia and in international operations, most recently, as Senior Vice President of BP America and Head of Global Deepwater Response. From 2005 to 2010, he was Regional President of BP Southern Cone (South America). Prior to 2005, he worked in BP’s headquarters as Chief of Staff to the Upstream CEO and Head of the Executive Office for Exploration and Production. Felipe joined BP Colombia in 1995 as a Project Engineer, where he held various positions before becoming Vice President of Operations. He started his career in the oil and gas industry in 1991. 
 
In 2020, Felipe was nominated and awarded by top executives from different sectors as “Executive of the year 2019” in the 17th edition of the annual survey led by “La Republica”, one of Colombia’s leading business newspapers. Felipe accepted this award on behalf of all Ecopetrol’s employees.
