Bently Nevada partners with Approtium on South Korean hydrogen project

Baker Hughes’ Bently Nevada is partnering with Approtium to make hydrogen operations safer, more reliable, and more efficient

Earlier this year, Baker Hughes was awarded a contract from Approtium to deploy Bently Nevada’s  innovative asset health monitoring technology across three hydrogen production plants in South Korea. The solution will deliver early warning alerts and machine diagnostics, helping Approtium digitize plant operations and maintenance and enable safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Specializing in hydrogen and liquefied CO2 manufacturing and distribution, Approtium has a 60-kilometer hydrogen pipeline network, an extensive fleet of 250 high-pressure carriers, and two reformer plants, producing more than 100,000 tons of hydrogen annually. As part of the contract, Bently Nevada will deploy its Orbit 60 next generation monitoring technology, more than 150 sensors, and System 1 software. Installation commenced in the second quarter and is expected to continue through 3Q 2023.

“Serving over 145 clients in South Korea's critical industries, including petrochemical, refining, semi-conductor production, and mobility stations, meeting the emerging demand requires us to provide hydrogen safely, reliably, and competitively, said James Kim, Approtium Chief Executive Officer. Digitizing plant operations and maintenance is critical to ensure a sound operating system that assures optimization of our assets’ performance. We are pleased to partner with Bently Nevada in this endeavor, and we look forward to partnering with others across Baker Hughes as we continue to support the decarbonization of the Korean energy and industrial market.”

“We’re pleased to partner with Approtium, an industry leader specializing in hydrogen and liquefied CO2 manufacturing and distribution, said KH Hor, VP, Asia Pacific for Bently Nevada. This award builds on the prior success and long-term relationship between the two companies. By providing early warning alerts and machine diagnostics, we aim to improve safety, reliability, and efficiency of Approtium's hydrogen operations.”
