Straight Beam Transducers - Single Element

Ultrasonic Contact Probes

Typically used for manual inspections, straight beam single element probes are ideal for scanning parts with regular geometry and relatively smooth contact surfaces. This includes flat or curved surfaces where you need to identify flaws or a backwall parallel to the surface or detect with a beam normal to the surface. With improved near surface resolution, you can use these probes along with a couplant layer (typically gel, oil, or paste) when you need to penetrate a thick section of material. Models include delay line, wear resistant and protective face.

Applications

Our straight beam transducers are perfect for manual inspection and flaw detection.

Applications include:

  • Near surface flaw detection
  • Inspection of thin sections
  • Inspection of thick sections or difficult to penetrate materials
  • Composites and plastics
  • Turbine blades
  • General purpose, metal parts with simple geometry
  • Manual inspection of plate, forging, bar, billets and castings
  • Inpsection of tubing, piping, and tanks
  • Lamination and delamination
  • Bond testing
  • Machine Components
  • Shells

Protective Face - Straight Beam Transducers

For European Customers: These probes are suitable for the DGS flaw sizing method, with a replaceable membrane that improves coupling on uneven or curved surfaces and extends transducer life.

Use with a standard side mount or optional top mount Lemo 1 (B..S) or Lemo 00 (MB..S) connector. High temperature delay lines are also available.

For North American Customers: These probes can be used with three types of protective face with a membrane that improve coupling on uneven or curved surfaces. The wear cap extends transducer life indefinitely when replaced periodically.

Use with a side or top mount BNC connector, along with a mature delay line to enable testing on surfaces up to 400°F (200°C).

Wear Resistant - Straight Beam Transducers

These probes are best for inspecting metals with a higher gain reserve than protective face models. They’re rugged with a permanent abrasion-resistant wear plate, with a comfortable grip that makes them easy to use and fingertip models available for access to tight spaces you might often encounter.

For European Customers: Probe models have side mounted Lemo 00 connectors, side mounted Microdot on K..K and G..K types.

For North American Customers: Probe models use BNC connectors (side or top mount), side mounted Microdot on F type.

Delay Line Transducers

Delay Line Transducers  offer excellent near-surface resolution for small flaw detectability with higher frequencies. All models come with a side mounted Microdot connector and replaceable delay line for long life and versatility.
