Benefits

  • Minimize formation damage and improve cleanup time with low water requirement
  • Improve proppant transport and diversion in long well segments
  • Reduce risk of damage to downhole equipment while improving flowback
Applications

  • Hydraulic fracturing operations in low-pressure or water-sensitive reservoirs
  • Hydraulic fracturing operations in limited water-use areas due to environmental regulations or availability
  • Multistage hydraulic fracturing where mechanical diversion is inadequate to treat the full length of each stage

Overview

Overview

Improve the hydraulic fracturing performance in your long laterals—with less water—with energized carbon dioxide (CO2) fracturing fluid systems from Baker Hughes.

Reduce friction pressure and improve flowback with binary foam fracturing

Our exclusive binary foam fracturing services combine nitrogen (N2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) for the gaseous internal phase, mixed with water-based fluids for the liquid external phase.

Pump this fluid at different ratios of gas content, depending on your specific well conditions, for an individually-tailored solution that combines the best advantages of straight CO2 or N2 foams.

The combined fluid systems create good viscosity, superior proppant transport, and excellent fluid loss control. They also reduce risks of thermal shock damage to tubulars and downhole equipment, while lowering pipe friction pressures and boosting flowback. Additives can be used to provide higher viscosity, more stability, and better fluid loss control as your well requires it.

Minimize formation damage and optimize proppant placement with CO2 foam fracturing

CO2 foam systems are ideal fracturing solutions for tight formations with low permeability, low bottomhole pressure, extreme sensitivity to conventional treating fluids, or the tendency to release a large volume of fines.

Our CO2 foam systems lower fluid viscosity to improve proppant transport and reduce fluid loss to the formation, enabling deeper penetration into your formation. These features, plus their excellent fluid loss control, make CO2 foam systems excellent diverting fluids.

Both foamed systems are compatible with a wide variety of common fracturing fluids, additives, and proppants for improved application flexibility and fewer testing requirements. They are also an excellent option for fracturing in areas where water availability is limited.
